This week I will be sharing 10 tips for improving your email experience. These tips are taken from the book Hyperfocus by Chris Bailey. You can read the entire book notes using the below link.
Hyperfocus on email.
Limit points of contact.
Take an “email holiday.”
Keep an external to-do list.
Predecide when you’ll check.
Sign up for two email accounts.
Wait before sending important messages.
Keep a tally of how often you check for messages.
Check for new messages only if you have the time, attention, and energy to deal with whatever might have come in.
Use the five-sentence rule: To save your time and respect your email recipient’s time, keep each message you write to five sentences or less, and add a note to your email signature explaining that you’re doing so.
As is the case with all human behavior, distraction is just another way our brains attempt to deal with pain. If we accept this fact, it makes sense that the only way to handle distraction is by learning to handle discomfort.
